I used to order from Agora once a week, and while the new location is nicer, the quality of the food has gone down drastically. I just ordered the 4-course lunch special. For $17 the portions were pitiful. The salad wasn't good and the chicken was extremely overdone. I also ordered a hummus which they forgot. After calling back twice they sent it over. It is the worst hummus I've ever had. Next time I want Turkish food that's actually good, I'll get off the couch and go to Beyoglu.

Definitely among the best Turkish places ive been to in the city. I order from here all the time as their prices arent idiotic either. You cant go wrong with Agora, especially its yogurt kebab options

Get the lamb yoghurt Adana!!!

I absolutely LOVE Agora -- favorites are the Spinach Tarotar, the Hunkar Bengedi (with Lamb), Yogurt Shish Kebab (chicken or lamb) or just the Chicken Shish or Lamb Shish Kebabs. Basically it is hard to go wrong. And it's great at the restaurant itself (BYOB) but delicious to order in too - you'd think it wouldn't travel well but it totally does!

Lamb meatballs were very good. I would definitely order it again. The shish, less so - the meat was too hard to bite through.

The ingredients were fresh and that is the only good thing I can say about my Agora order. Lamb Adana came with about a stick an a half of meat and a portion of rice fit for a child. Absence of cacik (a standard condiment in good Turkish restaurants) underscored the bland saltiness of the meal. Plenty of shredded onions and other fillers. Calf's Liver was in tiny bits, some of which were strangely chewy. Again, fillers were not spared.

Food was very good. Had the lamb shish and lamb meatballs. Both were excellent, accompanying salad was very fresh. Solid offering and would wholeheartedly recommend to other upper east siders.

GREAT food. Have tried a bunch of items on the menu and each has been a treat and consistently good from order to order. Healthy portions at a reasonable price. Hands down our favorite Turkish place and one of our favorite restaurants.

I've had several of the lamb dishes, and they've all been decent and arrived quickly. However, I was disappointed to see they raised their prices in the past couple of days by nearly 30%. Coupled with the fairly small portion sizes with their former prices, I won't be ordering here any longer :(

Solid Turkish/Med option on UES. We enjoy the diverse menu options to start. The apps may very well be the best in class as there are not simply with little effort but with great complex flavors and satisfying. We have enjoyed the chicken and lamb kabobs often and find both are our "go-to" dinner main courses. The price point is also a standout for this delicious food (low price/high quality.)

Pricy for the amount of meat. Other turkish restaurants offer more for the same price.

Giving 5 for the Manti (Ravioloi) : was delicious!
The rice that came with the Chicken SHish Kebab is also sooo good! Next time when I order though I will ask for some tomato sauce. Turkish food just begs for it !
Overall very pleased.

AMAZING!!! entrees come with rice already.

The food is fine, but I'm giving this restaurant two stars because I waited so long. The estimate was 20 - 35 minutes, and it took an hour and 20 minutes for me to get my food.
Posted 4 years ago by Lydia M.
The food was average. Also we had to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes for the food. I would encourage people to consider other Turkish/Middle Easter options on the UES.

There is an old Turkish saying that a cook who can make good pilaf will be good at cooking everything else. Unfortunately Agora may be the exception to this rule, because their rice was the only good (aka "edible") among the several dishes I sampled today. The rest was highly unpalatable as follows:
Zucchini pancakes: tasted more like dough than zucchinis. They were greasy absent any kind of real feta cheese flavor.
Stuffed vine leaves: DRY. Not acceptable, period.
Adana Kebab: The rice was OK and so were the vegetables. But the meat was of very low quality (with chewy pieces of cartilage) and the yogurt was sour.
To sum it all up, they need a new cook who can manage the pilaf as well as the rest of the Turkish cuisine.

Quality food, friendly service, low prices. A gem on the UES. walk into this place and you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for trendy atmosphere don't go here. only real foodies who are looking for an amazing meal will come here.
Adana Kebab, Shepherd Salad, ALL OF IT! Five stars. Thank you for opening this place. Officially a Turkish food addict, and I have tried plenty of Turkish places.
